SCP-2000 · Deus Ex Machina

Mythological Narrative
SCP-2000 lies beneath Yellowstone National Park, a reset mechanism prepared for the collapse of human civilization. When a global catastrophe passes the possibility of ordinary recovery, the facility can activate stored genetic resources, industrial systems, and memory technologies. It manufactures population at immense scale, reconstructs infrastructure and cities, and supplies society with a past coherent enough for daily life to continue. Survivors do not need to know that the world ended. History can be restored from backup like any other system.
“Deus Ex Machina” is classified Thaumiel because its anomaly contains or counters disasters of greater scope. The file gradually exposes colder questions. How many times has it already operated? How much apparently continuous history is actually post-catastrophe editing? If people possess bodies, families, and memories, do they require an unmanufactured past to be real? SCP-2000 changes apocalypse from final judgment into version control. Civilization may no longer have one creation and one destruction, but repeated overwriting in the rhythm of underground machinery. Every reconstruction saves humanity while making “the original humanity” harder to locate.
